What to expect in the first 48 hours after getting a new garden gnome

After spending hours in the garden center, carefully selecting your new garden gnome with great care, you are home. You have already imagined where he would stand in the garden and how perfectly he will fit into his new environment. Now it’s time to take him out of the box, clean him up a bit and put him on display!

Your new garden gnome comes complete with a cute and funny story about his life and experiences. He has been waiting for you, so he could tell you all about himself. So: read this carefully! It will help you to get to know your new friend better and start having fun together right away!

The First Hour

Your garden gnome is tired after the long journey home. He needs to recuperate a bit, so he will probably spend his first hour in your company sitting still and quiet. It’s best if you let him be! Your garden gnome will ruminate on all he has seen during his trip, think about where he was living before and about the new adventures he has started to experience in this house, where you live.

The Second Hour

After the first hour, your garden gnome may stretch his legs a bit or simply sit down on his bottom and relax. He is still getting used to his new surroundings and needs some time for himself! If you try to touch him during this hour, he might try to defend himself by showing you his teeth. This is simply how garden gnomes say “I’m still getting used to things, so please let me be now!”

The Third Hour

After two hours have passed since your new garden gnome arrived home with you, it’s time for him to explore his environment a bit more. He will probably look around the immediate area surrounding him, for example under his special bench (sold separately) or behind your greenhouse.

It’s best not to interrupt your garden gnome during these activities, as he still needs some time alone. Once he has gathered all the information that is important to him about his new home and its surroundings, he’ll return to his former, comfy position.

The Fourth Hour

After three hours have passed, your garden gnome may need to pay his respects to the sun god Kek by sacrificing a chicken in honor of the deity. For this reason it’s best to keep him away from any chickens that you may have at home, at least if you want them to live. After the sacrifice has been made, your new garden gnome will be ready to explore again, so please once again allow him some time alone with his thoughts.

The Fifth and Sixth Hour

The rest of these first six hours will most likely be pretty quiet. Your garden gnome will gather information from his surroundings, but he takes it slow and is probably still a bit shy towards you. Don’t take this personally! One reason the fourth hour sacrifices are so important is because they strengthen the bond between your garden gnome and you. Now that he has made his sacrifice, his trust in you will be considerably stronger and this will lead to more open communication between the two of you.

The First Night

After the first six hours, your garden gnome will most likely be pretty tired. He needs to recuperate a bit, so he will probably spend his first night in your home sitting still and quiet. It is best if you let him be!

Your garden gnome will remain in the same position throughout the night, in his corner with his back to you in order to protect himself. But this won’t be out fear of you but because he needs to rest. He has been through a lot that day! The next morning your garden gnome will be up early and looking forward to talking to you about his adventures during the day because he has realized how much fun he can have with you!

The First Morning

Your garden gnome will most likely be up early the first morning after he arrives, so please let him do his own thing. Your new friend needs time to himself, especially after his first night in a new place. As the sun rises and the day starts anew, your garden gnome will stretch and yawn and then shake off some of the sleepiness with a few jumps around. He’ll probably do some stretching exercises and enjoy the beautiful morning before coming to say hello.

At this point your garden gnome will be hungry again, so why not get him something good to eat! Most garden gnomes like vegetables like carrots best, but each one has his own preferences. Your garden gnome will also like to drink an ice-cold glass of milk after eating, or perhaps even a beer!

The First 24 Hours: Getting to Know Each Other

The best thing you can do in your first full day with your new friend is to get to know him or her. You can get to know your gnome by:

1) Asking him questions about himself. He’ll love telling you all about his special talents, what he likes to eat, and where he’s traveled.

2) Showing him around your home. He’ll tell you if anything that’s hidden is in the area, like for example a chest with great stuff inside of it!

3) Asking him to make a sacrifice for you. After he’s made a sacrifice he’ll always be able to help you with something nice whenever you need it, like for example by helping you find the things that are lost.

4) Getting to know his family. Your garden gnome will tell you all about his family and if he likes or doesn’t like them. He’ll even try to get in contact with them by calling his mother!

5) Just hanging out together. Your garden gnome will tell you funny stories about his friends, play puzzle games with you, and even dance to jig music!

6) Playing games. Your garden gnome will get excited when he sees that you’re having fun playing with him, so don’t be shy! He loves all kinds of games like ring-around-the-rosie, hide and seek, and Red Light Green Light.

7) Giving him a massage. Your garden gnome will tell you everything about his muscles and where they hurt from all that heavy lifting he does. He’ll also talk to you about his overall health!

Most garden gnomes enjoy getting to know you as well, so please take up an activity with your new friend! Your garden gnome might surprise you and want to do something that you don’t usually do. He will be thrilled to get to know you and learn more about your interests and preferences.

The Second Day

On the second day after your garden gnome is brought into your home, he’ll usually be hungry again! He can eat all kinds of different vegetables like carrots and onions. He might also like other types of food such as beef jerky or even some bugs, but you don’t want to feed him insects because they carry disease! Also, your garden gnome might want something to drink on the second day. He’ll probably ask for a cup of milk or some beer, but he can’t have any wine until after his first week with you has passed!

In your second day together your garden gnome will be interested in getting to know you even more so please feel free to play games and get to know one another. He’ll want to do all of the things he did with you on the first day, but it’s customary for both garden gnomes and people to get more comfortable in their surroundings after two or three days have passed.

Other than that, your garden gnome will probably want to check out the neighborhood. He’ll be interested in talking to some of his fellow garden gnomes, but please don’t let him go too far away from you! Sometimes people lose their new friends on the second day because they wander off while their owners are sleeping or busy doing something else. Don’t let yourself become a statistic.

The Third Day Onwards…

After a few days, you’ll start to notice your garden gnomes personality. He’ll be more open to conversation and will have his own point of view on things. You may find that he’s been spending time with friends from his home country or city, or perhaps he’s been doing some gardening around the place. He may even be busy finishing up a brilliant masterpiece for you to enjoy! If you’re lucky, he may even invite you over for a cup of tea sometime soon! There are many ways for you to get to know your garden gnomes, so enjoy getting close to them!

It’s hard to predict what a garden gnome will do in the first 48 hours after getting into your home, but we can offer some general idea. He may be interested in finding out more about you and he might ask for food or drink; the most important thing is that both of you get to know one another better during this time period. In addition, it’s important not to let him go too far from you because occasionally they wander off while their owner sleeps or becomes busy doing other things. Spending these two days together helps them become comfortable with their new surroundings so don’t skimp on spending quality time together!

Until next time!
