The Art of Making a Living as a Soccer Lawn Ornament

There are many ways to make a living.

Some people go into the family business, others choose a profession such as doctor, lawyer or soccer lawn ornament.

Soccer lawn ornaments have become popular recently and you can see them all over the country in backyards and fields where grass grows naturally.

So what if you, yourself, wish to become a soccer lawn ornament? What do you need to know about the business? If you want to get started making money as a soccer lawn ornament, there are several things you will need to do.

1) Look the part

You will need to get an appropriate costume. They can be purchased online, at specialty shops or you can even make your own (see below).

Whichever costume you choose, make sure it fits and is comfortable to wear. It should also allow you to move freely while playing your part on the field.

Costumes used by other soccer lawn ornaments vary widely in style and color. Generally, people who wish to become a soccer lawn ornament soon realize that wearing a costume in the likeness of a person’s favorite player is not practical. Although professional soccer players are known for their striking good looks and fashion sense, costumes in their likeness are typically considered by customers to be tacky.

2) Learn the “roles” and give a convincing performance

You will need to know what part you play on the field. When potential customers look at your outfit when deciding whether or not they would like to purchase one like yours, understanding your role at a glance is important.

Roles include offensive player, defensive player, goalie (restricted access), bench warmer and manager. Your costume should indicate which position you play so that the potential buyer knows he is getting a quality product for his money. You can also play different roles throughout a game, perhaps switching mid-game to keep the action going.

3) Be a good sport

Soccer is a sport that requires great skill, agility and physical endurance. Using your abilities in service of others for money is called “working”. Your customers already think you’re great because they want to buy costumes just like yours.

You have to be a good sport and allow them to watch you play soccer in their yard, even though you aren’t getting paid for the game. Many new lawn ornaments are quick to point out that “Soccer is my favorite sport”, but this will not help your business grow.

4) Find a location

This is important to your success as a soccer lawn ornament. You need to find a good place to hang out, preferably somewhere that gets lots of sun and offers customers a nice view of your performance. Be careful not to choose a spot that will get you into trouble with your neighbors!

Also, keep in mind that most people don’t want to look at a soccer lawn ornament all day. Set yourself up where you can be viewed by them only occasionally and you’ll get the most return for your investment of time and energy.

5) Ask for referrals (but don’t be pushy about it)

Lawn ornaments recommend that you refer potential customers to other lawn ornaments when they ask about your career choice. It is important not to pressure these people, though. Your success in this field will largely depend on your ability to sell yourself without being too obvious about it.

Keep these things in mind as you plan for a long and successful career as a soccer lawn ornament!
