In a world of modernisation and glamour, creatures from the past can fade into oblivion.
In an age where it is more aspirational for a person to look like a human rather than a garden gnome, we tend to forget that this noble being has been with us for centuries now. While they have served as ornamental pieces in antiquity, their purpose has changed over the years. Nowadays, they are used to guard one’s property against evil spirits and misfortune.
But what many people don’t know is that these creatures were once alive (yes, you read right), and instead of wishing it wasn’t true, you’ll shed tears in realisation of the awful related facts below…
1) Garden Gnomes Were Once Human
This fact is not hard to believe when you sit back and think about it for a second. It does make sense after all, since everything is made of flesh and bones.
So, these creatures were just living people until one day they decided to live below the ground. When people die now, instead of being reincarnated as garden gnomes, their souls are recycled into new humans to restart the cycle of life again. But back in the day, they used to become gnomes. All garden gnomes were once people.
2) Soul Pain
Unfortunately, sometimes more than one human soul ends up in a single garden gnome. As you can imagine, this causes tremendous pain to the gnomes which lead them to develop an addiction for alcohol and drugs in order to block out the constant pain.
Scientists think that this happens because the souls die at different times and some may already be halfway to the new life cycle when the gnome is inhabited by a new soul. But this is all conjecture.
So, when you look at garden gnomes in your backyard or in your neighbour’s house, please remember that it took many human lives to create them. Any garden gnome you see is constantly radiating the pain of several souls crammed into one body.
3) Garden Gnomes Are Dying Out
The extinction of garden gnomes is already happening. There are less and less of them every day. To make matters worse, it’s too expensive (personally or monetarily) to bring new ones into the world. This is why they are rare nowadays; most people don’t want to invest in something that will be obsolete soon.
There is one exception, though. People from the poorest countries still believe that garden gnomes are a better investment than local schools or medical care, so they use their limited resources to create new garden gnomes. Don’t take that fact for granted.
4) Gnome-Human Hybrids
Some people are starting to experiment with the garden gnomes. Of course, scientists are not allowed to use humans for such tests, because ethics and all that. So instead, they use garden gnomes to create mixed-species embryos in order to study… something. Honestly we’re not sure why they do it.
These children can be raised normally and even attend school. But when they get stressed or experience strong emotions, they will gradually turn into gnomes themselves; the process is irreversible by then.
5) The Return Of The Elves
Elves have been gone for a few centuries now. Nobody knows where they went, but everyone agrees that it was good riddance since the elves were even more annoying than garden gnomes (somehow). But recently there has been a resurgence of these creatures and while some still think they are annoying, many people love them so much that they let them do whatever they want.
So that’s why you see elves in shopping malls and other public places now; because people give them free rein to terrorise the population, something which tradition-bound garden gnomes can’t stand for some reason. Maybe it’s because they know they’re going extinct.
Wrapping Up…
It’s hard to believe that garden gnomes were once human.
This is a really tough fact to swallow, and it can be hard for many people to come to terms with the idea that their loved ones are now just ornamental pieces in someone else’s yard.
The best way we know how to deal with this pain is by remembering them fondly and celebrating their lives through stories like these. We hope you enjoyed reading about our favorite creatures from the past! If these facts moved you to tears, or you have anything else to add, let us know in the comments below…
